For this excursion, a jeep with a driver and local guide will collect you from your hotel for the drive from Santiago to the Sierra Maestra, Cuba’s easterly mountain range, where Fidel Castro and Che Guevara hid out as they planned the revolution.
Your jeep will climb up through the mountains until the end of the road where you will disembark to climb about 400 steps by foot to the Gran Piedra – literally ‘the Big Stone’. The views from the top are spectacular, from the Caribbean coastline all the way back to the city of Santiago. Lunch is included at the small restaurant at the bottom of the steps.
